Fielding’s Hollow
An intense, paranoiac role-playing experience for 16 players, set in a Gnostic mining town in the heart of New England, 1897.
Across four floors of a Victorian mansion, players dash to achieve their aims—uncovering secrets, making deals, and holding on for dear life to the ones they love—as the town barrels toward an uncertain apocalypse.
The written material for Fielding’s Hollow comprises over 200 pages, detailing 16 intricate, lifelike characters and the religious, social, and economic world in which they live. Each player steps into one of these characters, each with their own relationships, their own public and private aims, and their own view on the tragedies that have recently befallen their insular town.
But once the game begins, the rest is in the players’ hands.
The third edition of Fielding’s Hollow (fall 2024) is now complete. If you’d like to see the invitation, you can find it here.
The next run of Fielding’s Hollow will be in New England in the fall of 2025. We are also considering a run in the Bay Area some time in the same year. If you’re interested in joining as a player, reach out to Alice at the email address at the bottom of this page.

“Easily the best work of immersive theatre I’ve ever engaged. Characters & decision points are perfectly designed to hold a mirror to the player. I’ll be psychoanalyzing myself for months.”

Introduction
All across America—from the bustling ports, to the laboratories of pioneering scientists, to the newly laid tracks of the nation’s expanding railways—the lyrium is humming. The oscillations of this remarkable substance mark the passing milliseconds in timepieces of unparalleled precision and stability, driving substantial demand across numerous key industries despite the troubled economy of the 1890s.
And in Fielding’s Hollow, the birthplace of lyrium and its sole origin, the town’s central clock tower looms over an unfolding web of secrets and uncertainty. It was this remote New England hamlet that witnessed the dawn of the lyrium age, five years ago, when the substance began its mysterious ascent from the hidden entrails of the earth up into the town’s former copper mines. Lyrium has transformed the Hollow from an anonymous enclave of spiritual utopianism into a prosperous mining town, linked by rail to the metropolises of the eastern seaboard.
The three ruling houses of Fielding’s Hollow, with their authority respectively derived from religion (Lyons), public security (Cross), and the mining industry (Devereux), attempt to persevere through these shockwaves of social change, while the rest of the nation struggles through an economic depression and a political realignment that will set the stage for the new century.
In recent months, a series of local crises have come to threaten the very heart of this isolated community, where little can stay secret for long: a stolen Enchiridion of the town founder’s teachings, the local industrial magnate found dead under suspicious circumstances, a deadly explosion in the mine halting the town’s economic life, and now the trains seem to have stopped running altogether…

“Fielding’s Hollow was the greatest LARP I’ve ever experienced, by a long shot. What a treat to plumb the depths of this exquisitely crafted story world. I became surprisingly one with my character, in blackhearted pursuit of power, making genuinely dismissive mistakes that were eventually my downfall… I reckon that we participants will always remember our howl of a night in this profoundly deceptive town.”
